Early 1920s Antique German Schuco YES/NO Bear "Gertie" - £115.00
Gertie is a lovely rare find antique German Schuco Yes/No bear dating to the early 1920s. 14 inches in height, Gertie shows lots of wear after almost a century of cuddles but still a fabulous old character!. Gertie is completely straw stuffed with nice little hump back, original wooden boot button eyes, and beautiful pronounced snout. She has ancient replacement velveteen pads (these have themselves worn to feet and straw expose to one wrist). Her yes/no action in good working order, she'll nod and shake her head beautifully via the tail mechanism at the back (fur worn away and old yarn wrapped around the metal tail). The concertina squeaker in her tummy is non working. Her black yarn nose/mouth stitching has fared well over the years, she has a delightful "bemused" expression!!. The backing fabric has old holes to top of one thigh and couple of ancient darns including side of face, arm, tummy, back of head and side seam. Fur has some markings too as you can see. Joints are all good apart from left arm which doesn't move at all. The straw stuffing is very sturdy overall but shifted over the years to elbows and thighs. Her dress suits her really well but extremely old so now showing fading/wear. Gertie's golden mohair has almost all been loved away but there's still a few tufts here and there. I love ancient old teds like Gertie, I think she's a beauty!.
